Here is some exciting news for Boardwalk Empire fans. As reported by Digital Spy yesterday afternoon, the crime-drama series has been renewed by HBO for a fifth season.

With an average of 7.5 million viewers weekly and an average rating of 8.7 on IMDB, there was really no doubt that Boardwalk Empire would be given another opportunity to air on HBO. Even the president of HBO is excited for another season and shares his thoughts on the renewal of the show:

“Thanks to Terry Winter, Martin Scorsese, Tim Van Patten, Howard Korder and their stellar team, ‘Boardwalk Empire’ remains in a class by itself,” Michael Lombardo, president of HBO programming, said in a statement. “I look forward to another electrifying season of this impeccably crafted series.”

In addition to this exciting news (and if you haven’t heard already), Bobby Cannavale, who plays the role of Gyp Rosetti in the show, won a 2013 Emmy award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. As Huffington Post has also reported, Boardwalk Empire won a total of 5 Emmys at the ceremony, which is impressively more than other shows.
