Orange Is The New Black has captivated audiences since the moment it hit everyone’s Netflix.

Now, the show is becoming even more beloved, if possible, for the boundaries it is breaking. Especially when it comes to the very first openly transgender actress Laverne Cox, who just so happens to be nominated for an Emmy.

Although, Cox didn’t have much faith that she would even get nominated! She had checked a few websites to see what her chances of getting nominated would be, and they were not what she hoped, so she went to bed trying to put it out of her mind.

This is what she had to say about her night before she made history, “I went to sleep and I let it go. I said, ‘OK, God, I think the show’s going to be nominated. And that’s amazing.’ And I closed my eyes and let it go.”

I think it’s safe to say she woke up with a pleasant surprise! She was still in shock when she was on a phone interview from New York, “Oh, my god, it’s going to take me awhile to get used to saying ‘Emmy-nominated actress. I only quit my restaurant job a year ago, so let me tell you, this is pretty good.”

Well, what a year it has been for her!

Congrats Laverne, we cannot wait to see what else you have in store for us!

Do you think that she will walk away with an Emmy come awards night? We sure hope so; what’s not to love about her character Sophia Burset?
