Supergirl has cast Brit Morgan in the role of Livewire in the CBS show’s first season. In the comics, Livewire is the villainous alter-ego of shock-jock Leslie Willis and was originally created for the 1990 animated series Superman. She joins Harley Quinn and Renee Montoya as characters created by Bruce Timm for television before making their debut in the main comics universe. Gail Simone and John Byrne brought Livewire into mainstream comics continuity in a 2006 issue of Action Comics, and she has recently been seen in the pages of Batgirl.
Supergirl will stay fairly close to Willis’ origins. She’s an “abrasive and funny shock-jock” who works for a company owned by Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart). An accident causes Willis to develop dangerous superpowers and only Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) can save the day.
Morgan is no stranger to supernatural television. She’s best known for her role on True Blood as Debbie Pelt and was also in The Middleman, a short-lived comic book adaption. She joins an ever growing list of DC characters set to appear on the show, including Red Tornado, Maxwell Lord, Lucy Lane, and General Sam Lane. Producer Andrew Kreisberg said that they are having fun filling the Supergirl universe with a variety of DC characters. He stated that the show won’t just consist of “a handful of Superman’s villains” and promised the audience “some big surprises”.
Supergirl will begin airing on October 26 on CBS.
