Broadway Theaters WILL Honor Joan Rivers Tonight With Light Dimming

NULL

Before you go hating all of Broadway for deciding against giving Joan Rivers the esteemed and rare tribute of dimming The Great White Way; take a minute and breathe.

It has been announced that the marquees in New York City

will

dim tonight in her honor.

The official statement from The Broadway League‘s website:

“Joan Rivers loved Broadway and we loved her. Due to the outpouring of love and respect for Joan Rivers from our community and from her friends and fans worldwide, the marquees of Broadway theatres in New York will be dimmed in her memory tonight, at exactly 6:45pm for one minute, ” said Charlotte St. Martin, Executive Director.

The New York Times reported late last night that at least seven theaters would honor Joan. “Jordan Roth, the owner of Jujamcyn Theaters, which operates five of the houses, took to Twitter on Monday night to announce the move “in memory of the legendary Joan Rivers.” Disney announced separately that it would dim the lights at the New Amsterdam Theater, which the company runs and where its musical “Aladdin” is playing. The Helen Hayes Theater, where Ms. Rivers starred in 1994 in “Sally Marr … and Her Escorts,” will also dim its lights on Tuesday evening; the Hayes is independently owned.”

It appears the rest of the Broadway League got on board and have decided to pay the late actress and comedian tribute.
