There’s a lot going on in Brooklyn Nine-Nine this week. This episode spans over several months as Jake and Amy are trying to get pregnant, Hitchcock gets divorced again, the Nine-Nine is taken over by guinea pigs, and Holt walks the same beat every day.

Hitchcock

The episode opens with the Nine-Nine at Shaw’s having a divorce party for Hitchcock. Hitchcock is heartbroken and says he’ll never find love again. Until two minutes later when a beautiful girl, Anna, walks in. Hitchcock leaves the party to be with her and when Anna announces she’s pregnant, they get married. Unfortunately, their marriage doesn’t last long when Hitchcock finds out that he’s not the baby’s father, resulting in another divorce party.

Jake and Amy

Jake and Amy start seriously trying to get pregnant. When Jake doesn’t feel comfortable with Amy’s schedule, he suggests they try “The Jake Way”. The Jake Way is more spontaneous, but still pretty well planned, and a lot more fun with characters and scenes involved. But ultimately, it doesn’t result in a pregnancy. So Jake and Amy start trying using “The Amy Way”, a method that is scheduled down to the minute, even more so than it was before. The Amy Way leaves Jake and Amy exhausted and still not pregnant. After learning that Hitchcock’s girlfriend is pregnant, Jake and Amy try “The Hitchcock Way”, which involves being drunk, messy, and unplanned. But that doesn’t work either. Disheartened, Amy wants to give up. Jake tells her this isn’t something she can control, which we all know Amy hates, and he says that they are a family no matter what happens.

Rosa and Boyle

It all starts with Charles bringing two guinea pigs to the office one day. They were supposed to be Nikolaj’s birthday present but he’s allergic to guina pigs. Terry tells Boyle to get rid of them or he’ll send them to a lab soa he and Rosa hide them in the CPR dummy closet. Unlike Jake and Amy, the guinea pigs have no trouble reproducing and soon there are 600 of them. Once all the guinea pigs are rounded up, Terry sends them to a lab anyways, much to Rosa and Boyle’s relief.

Terry and Holt

Holt complains to Terry that walking his beat every day is tedious. Terry says that there’s nothing he can do. Terry doesn’t pick favourites and beat cops have to walk their beat every day for six months. Although Holt doesn’t like it, he does it anyway. Over the six months, Holt befriends the Russian coffee cart lady, learns to like the dog that sits out on the stoop, and successfully manages to avoid being hit with garbage bags when the neighbours throw it out to the curb. Holt tells Terry that even though it is a monotonous task, he has learned a lot about the neighbourhood and picked up some useful tips from the citizens over the past few months.
