This week on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, it’s time for everyone’s favourite episode of the season—the Halloween Heist! Or, well the Valloweaster Heist this year. I love that even though this season is running in the spring, the writers still give us a Halloween Heist. Once again, our favourite detectives are competing for the title Amazing Human-Slash-Genius, so who will win this year’s holiday heist?

Halloween 2019

The Halloween Heist began six months ago, on October 31, 2019. This year, the challenge is to retrieve three “infinitude” gems from a knock-off Infinity Gauntlet before midnight. Jake sets some ground rules for decorum and handcuffs everyone to their partners so there can be no betrayals like in previous years. Amy works with Charles, Rosa works with Scully, and Jake works with Holt. Terry isn’t participating. Bill has the gems. Holt and Jake make the first move by fogging up the precinct. Jake gets the gems from Bill. Jake says he knows his way around blindfolded but there’s a chair in the way and he trips and drops the gems. Holt releases Cheddar to fetch the gems but then Cheddar swallows them. The vet says Cheddar will be fine and will pass the gems in a few days. Amy declares they restart the heist the next time they all have a free day.

Valentine’s Day 2020

The teams are back where they started four months earlier. Jake and Holt and Amy and Charles are in rooms on opposite sides of the precinct and Rosa’s in the bathroom with Scully and Terry’s still not interested in playing. Suddenly several dozen florists arrive with flowers for Bill. They depart as quickly as they arrived but now the gems are gone. Rosa gave the gems to Scully but he too, swallowed them. Again, the doctor says it will take some time for Scully to pass the gems. 

Easter 2020

The heist re-re-resumes on Easter. Scully has been told he’s not allowed to participate any more so Rosa partners with a filing cabinet because it has the same skill level as Scully (sorry, Hitchcock).Jake and Holt’s plan is to fill the Nine-Nine with people in bunny costumes and blend in wearing their own identical bunny costumes. Amy knows that this is Jake’s plan (it’s not always easy to be competing with your spouse) so she has matching costumes for her and Boyle. Everyone scrambles for the gems and one person gets them. One bunny repels off the roof and Rosa’s name goes up in flames as Rosa takes off the head of her costume. 

Rosa had been planning this for months, including the six-month delay. She realized that Cheddar would make an appearance so she made the gems smell like ham so he’d swallow them. She used the same strategy on Scully on Valentine’s Day. You know Scully can’t resist food or things that resemble food. She got Terry to break her free from being handcuffed to the filing cabinet (Terry was feeling left out now) and she also figured out Jake’s bunny suit plan. Rosa also reveals that she had three sets of gems that she switched out during each leg of the heist. She won on Halloween, she won on Valentine’s Day, and she won on Easter. This truly is the work of an Amazing Human-Slash-Genius.
