Showtime have confirmed that upcoming seventh season of Californication will be its last.
In a statement from Showtime Entertainment president, David Nevins said “With its unique blend of lyricism and excess, Californication has been one of our groundbreaking signature series. We will always be indebted to Tom Kapinos for leading the creative charge on this memorable comedy, and to David Duchovny for making us root for an unapologetic hedonist like Hank Moody.”
According to Deadline, the decision to end the series was made shortly after filming ended for season six and the network made agreements with creator/executive producer Tom Kapinos and star/executive producer David Duchovny to plan the “final act”.
No details have been released as to how the series will reach its conclusion but Nevins did comment that “Tom has carefully planned the final chapter of Hank’s journey and has brought it to a beautiful and satisfying conclusion for new and long-time fans alike.”
The seventh and final season of Californication is set to begin in April 2014 with a 12 episode run.
