Whirlpool made quite a bold statement with its display at the 2014 International Computer Electronics Show (CES) on Tuesday.

Featuring a touchscreen stovetop integrated into a kitchen countertop, and a fridge that “sings”, their interactive multimedia kitchen prototypes took some in awe with their spectacular features.

Need recipes? Check. Pinterest? Check. Need to hide your stove? Double check.

Although the “kitchen of 2020” is simply a concept at the moment, Whirlpool is looking to make touchscreen kitchen appliances and connect hands-free devices a reality by 2020.

“The Whirlpool Interactive Cooktop concept is inspired by the desire and potential for integrating all at-home technologies into one kitchen appliance in a way that makes cooking, multitasking and entertaining easier and more enjoyable,” says the director of Global Creative Design at Whirlpool, Chris Quatrochi, in an interview with Mashable. “It also cuts down on time spent planning and preparing meals, so families have more time to enjoy cooking or eating with each other.”

“Whirlpool’s goal is to design products that are focused on our consumer’s needs to sense and adapt to their life — the way they cook, clean and entertain — the way they want to live,” Quatrochi continues. “Smart appliances are a constantly evolving part of that process and remain a focus for the brand, when it comes to product innovation.”

And the stovetop isn’t the only exciting thing Whirlpool presented. They also displayed the Whirlpool Refrigerator with Bluetooth, allowing you to stream music from any connected device. The fridge is installed with the CoolVoxT Sound System, featuring Harman/Kardon speakers, and plays music, podcasts, and other audio streams right from your smartphones and tablets.

In fact, there’s a higher chance you’ll be seeing the Whirlpool Refrigerator hit the market in the near future. However, that being said, pricing details are yet to be announced.

It all sounds wonderful though, doesn’t it? Facebook, Pinterest, checking the weather, listening to music; essentially all that you need at your fingertips, literally!

That is, if Facebook and Pinterest are still as popular as ever by 2020.

Regardless, I absolutely cannot wait for a stovetop like that to exist. As a food blogger, I need it.

What do you think? Is the Kitchen of 2020 cool? Won’t need it? Share your thoughts by leaving a comment.
