It appears that that The Great Gatsby star Carey Mulligan has turned down the chance to play former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the biopic, Rodham. Mulligan reportedly met with director James Ponsoldt to discuss the role but has since passed on it.

Among those speculated as favorites for the coveted part are Scarlett Johansson, Amanda Seyfried, and Reese Witherspoon. An early favorite to play the role was Jessica Chastain, who has since denied the rumors she was up for the role. Chastain stated, “No, that’s actually not true. I found out about the project online, but yeah, there’s a lot of stuff out there.”

The anticipated film will reportedly focus on Clinton as a young lawyer on the committee involved in President Nixon’s impeachment. It will also focus on her history of juggling a diverging career path with her unresolved feelings for future president Bill Clinton.

Rodham will be penned by Young Il Kim and is expected to hit theaters in late 2014.
