This is the first Carrie Underwood album I have listened to from beginning to end, so you are getting a very unbiased review of this one. I have nothing to compare it to.
Storyteller is really good. It has a lot of ballads, which may be normal, but I couldn’t tell you. I really enjoyed the whole thing — except maybe one song. Carrie Underwood’s vocals send chills down my spine. Way to go, girl! She gets 4 out of 5 stars from me! Read below for a track by track review of ‘Storyteller’.
‘Chaser’ – This song starts out as a sweet ballad — until you realize it’s an angry song. She sounds beautiful. This isn’t anything super special, but it’s good.
‘Heartbeat’ – This is a love song, and it’s amazing. I give this song a 10 out of 10 because it gave me all the feels, but her voice always makes a song sound good.
‘Dirty Laundry’ – This is a second cheater song. I guess that is pretty common among country songs. The lyrics are clever, though.
‘Renegade Runaway’ – This is a fun track! It’s upbeat and an instant radio hit if she goes that way. She might have already — I don’t listen to country radio, but I want to listen to this one on repeat.
‘The Girl You Think I Am’ – A sweet daddy’s girl song. It’s not anything you haven’t heard, before but it is sweet.
‘Clock Don’t Stop’ – I love the verses, but the chorus strikes me the wrong the way. I think it’s the way the words fit together. I like 70% of this one. The message is good, but the vocals are awkward.
‘What I Never Knew I Always Wanted’ – The song of unexpected love. Another slow one, which might be normal for her albums, but I like a few ‘Before He Cheats’ type songs.
‘Relapse’ – A pretty average track. I don’t have much to say about it.
‘Church Bells’ – Yes, yes, yes! I love this one! I think I can call this my favorite because it has everything I want out of song.
‘Choctaw County Affair’ – This one is also amazing! This is blues country, and I love it! Carrie sounds so damn good. This one and ‘Church Bells’ should be downloaded now.
‘Like I’ll Never Love You Again’ – Another ballad, but it’s sweet, and she sounds so subtle. It makes the track more special. I really like the vibe on this track.
‘Mexico’ – I’m not a fan of this one. I can’t say why, but it’s got a strange sound.
‘Smoke Break’ – This is the album’s single, and it’s, of course, great. This song is one everyone can relate to.
