CBS Renews ‘Extant’ & ‘Under The Dome’

Prepare for more adventure! CBS confirms the renewal of Under the Dome and Extant!

There’s more to television than political dramas, reality programs, or whodunit/cop shows. Sci-fi and fantasy series have their own niche. However, they don’t always get the best rep or the most attention. Of course, there are the exceptions: Once Upon a Time, Sleepy Hollow, and Grimm come to mind, as does X-Files, Star Trek, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Two summer serials that both got decent favorable ratings and reviews were Under the Dome and Extant, although neither did as well as CBS hoped. Both programs are part of the supernatural fandom. And both got renewed. When Under the Dome returns, it will be entering its junior year (season 3). Extant will be a freshman era (season 2). It’s apt to point out that ‘both series are produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television.’

For those unfamiliar with either program, Under the Dome is based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name (he is also quite hands-on with this project). It’s an hour long horror story featuring characters stuck under a mysterious dome. Viewers are taken on a psychological journey as these people cope with living in tight quarters, all the while trying to figure out what this dome is and how to get rid of it.

Extant has a lot more space to work with – literally. This is a series about aliens and space travel. Halle Barry and Gorgon Visnjic star in this interplanetary program. Besides dealing with extraterrestrial, this is about ‘an astronaut trying to reconnect with her family after spending a year in space’ as well as what it means to be a family and to be human.

Are you all excited about the return of these shows? What would you like to see happen next? Sound off below!
