Chance Perez Discusses His Intentions with Music and Collaborating on “Bad”

The 23-year-old talent Chance Perez covers several bases. A singer-songwriter, actor, model, Power Ranger, and most importantly, father, Chance is riding the next wave of Hollywood with ample opportunities to show his copious passions.

Coming from a reality-tv introduction with shows like America’s Got Talent and the ABC series Boy Band, Chance found himself repeatedly praised by Spice Girls royalty Emma Bunton and four-time Grammy winner Timbaland, earning him a spot with the group In Real Life. As a quintet, the group had various Top 40 Pop songs, eventually cracking the top 10 in 2018 with two tours, and nine music videos. After that level of practice and perseverance, these experiences have led to Chance’s new beginning with a promising solo career.

Prior to his evolution in entertainment, Chance was beginning to find security in a different path as an EMT to support his family, a high-stakes setting that can include uniquely different challenges. When speaking to Chance, the multi-talented singer explained that transition, telling us,I had been pursuing music since before deciding to become an EMT, but when I found out I was about to become a father, I decided to secure a more stable career. I had just obtained my EMT Licensure in the state of CA, and was about to be hired onto my first ambulance service when the opportunity to be on ABC’s Boy Band, presented itself.” He continues, “It was my old high school choir director, David Moellenkamp, who pushed me to accept the offer. I can’t thank him enough for always pushing me to pursue what I was afraid to on my own.”

Chance has yet to drop his solo music just yet, but that hasn’t stopped him from releasing various covers on social media, and most recently, hopping on the track “Bad” alongside Deerock and Wyle. In regards to the song’s conception, he divulges, “A long time friend of mine had reached out to me and said that DeeRock and Wyle were looking for a feature on the track! Once I heard it, I started listening to it during my workouts and felt it was something I really wanted to be a part of. I feel a lot of people can relate to the message of the song which is, ‘Is it me? Or is there someone else?’”

The uptempo track kicks off with smooth vocals by the singer, into a satisfying build-up with an electro-pop chorus that feels natural to the singer who has a practiced-pop history. The fusion makes for a playlist-worthy addition that can easily result in multiple streams, but Chance makes it known that he has a lot more interests than following a strict pop-music path, noting, “I love the song ‘BAD’ and am so excited that it’s out there for people to listen to and experience, but I wouldn’t say pop/EDM is my genre.” Chance elaborates, “I’ve grown up listening to so many different genres, and I think the coolest thing is that you don’t have to pick. Music is an expression. It comes out how it’s meant to and if the songs mean something to me, I’ll release it.”

When it comes to new work, there’s a lot of anticipation from Chance’s growing following (currently over 235k on Instagram alone) and he’s managed to keep plenty busy during the difficulty of a pandemic, with a new role as the Black Ranger on Power Rangers Dino Fury, but that doesn’t deter him from his next musical endeavor. What can we expect from Chance’s debut solo music? “Honesty. A lot of the songs I’ve written are about things I’ve been through, people who have meant something to me, internal and personal struggles, and also situations I know that other people have been through.” The singer tells us, adding, “I want to release music that I’m proud of and that makes me happy. All I can ask for is that people listen and feel something from my songs. If I can make you feel, then to me, that’s something.”

In difficult times like this, people are connected by the universal obstacles of a pandemic, and finding a sense of bliss through art and passion is critical, but something else that Chance understands at a young age is patience. “The biggest lesson that I’ve had to learn, and that I’m still learning, is to pace myself. There are many obstacles in life, some easier than others, but all are important. Something to be learned from each. Pace yourself, take it one day at a time and you’ll be just fine.”

You can stream “Bad” on Spotify, and make sure to keep up with Chance for more content soon enough!
