Cher lent her legendary pipes to friend and fan Blake Shelton, who appears to be putting her through some serious work as his advisor on the Voice.
The singer told E! that she was unprepared and surprised at the commitment it took to be an advisor, in terms of hard work and emotional investment.
“It was profound, and I worked really hard…I was focusing, I was so concentrating on these people and I had a great time with [Blake]. He’s hysterical and ridiculous. But the actual work is very difficult.”
She continued: “I didn’t know what it was going to be, but I couldn’t imagine it was going to be anything, um, deep.”
Well, the singer was certainly mistaken.
”It was hard for me though because I kind of got emotionally involved with everybody and I wanted everyone to be good and everyone to win and, of course, that’s not possible,” reports Digital Spy.
That aside, the pairing of Cher and Blake Shelton seems like a mismatch; a pop/rock powerhouse and a country star are not typically thought of as working together.
Nevertheless, Shelton insists that Cher’s voice was constant in his home.
“My dad’s favourite artist on earth, bar none, no question, was Cher,” he told Yahoo Music earlier this month.”My dad worshipped Cher. I wish he could have seen tonight’s episode because I would’ve been texting him saying, ‘Hey, I met Cher! I took a picture with Cher!’”
The two will guide Shelton’s team in Season 5 of the Voice, which premiered tonight (September 23) on NBC.
