Castle gets in touch with his inner child this week as he tries to suss out who the killer is in the case of the ice cold killer and the ice cream truck.
Ice cream jingles never sounded so ominous.
So this week’s Castle dealt with the murder of an ice cream van driver’s son, named Anton, who was found shot dead in the vehicle in a creepy dark alley. When investigating the crime scene, Ryan stumbles across a permission slip from a school. Turns out we have a witness for the murder. They happen to be in second grade, but after the initial probing of Mrs. Ruiz’s class, no one comes forward.
Castle, being “90% kid” himself, takes the challenge of finding the witness. His first to plan to have the kids write a story doesn’t work out the way he thinks it will, as it provides a false lead. During a princess tea date, Castle’s main lead confesses to her frustration with a class mate and not with a cold-blooded killer. When Castle’s advice gets the kids into a fight, he is no longer welcome in the class, but not before he is given a very big clue in the form of an ice cream truck.
It turns out that Castle’s tea partner’s object of frustration, Jason, is the artist and, after some digging, we discover the witness was Jason’s half sister and Anton’s teacher.
The facts are these:
Anton, his childhood friend Dmitri and an ex-cop were working together to help exploited Russian immigrants get back home, using fake passports.
A Russian criminal ends up on Anton’s trail.
Anton ends up dead.
The gangster shows up to deliver some vengeance, and Castle beans him with a jar of marbles. As you do.
If this case didn’t scream Kindergarten Cop to you, then you are sadly mistaken.
The episode was actually a lot of fun. Let’s get to the gang:
Alexis is waiting on Castle hand and foot since he got back from his missing spell, and Kate thinks it’s a little odd. With Castle busy with the kids, it gives Beckett time with Ryan and Esposito, which is always welcome.
And how adorable was Emily, Castle’s playdate, being jealous of Kate?
