While many people went to church or gathered with friends and family for Easter Egg hunts and special dinners, Chris Pratt and a couple of his friends erected a steel cross.
How do we know that Peter Quill from the very popular Guardians of the Galaxy movies spent his holiday sweating out his devotion to his Christian faith? He documented the entire process on his Instagram page for everyone to see.
After picking the perfect spot, the trio seemed to haul the fairly large item over a significant amount of land.
Once the cross had been pulled about halfway up hill, they had to take a much needed rest. Surely very hard and heavy work, the men seem to welcome the sweat with their huge smiles.
Of course, no large object of substance can be erected without taking the proper precautions…
Once the cross was safely raised and placed in cement, the hard workers took a minute to take a picture in front of their handiwork.
Some people may be surprised to find out that Pratt has such strong ties to Christianity, but longtime followers of his career were probably not too fazed by the very public expression of his faith. As documented in an interview with Esquire, he had quite the introduction to his religion:
In Maui, about four weeks before I was discovered to go to California, I was hanging with my buddy. I wasn’t quite old enough to drink, so we got somebody to go in and buy us some alcohol. This guy came by and was like, ‘What are you doing tonight?’ I was like, ‘Oh, I dunno. I was just gonna wait out here, my friends are gonna buy me a bottle of Carlo Rossi and a sixer of Milwaukee’s Best Ice. So he’s like, ‘Will you fornicate tonight?’ I was like, ‘I hope so.’ ‘And drugs and drinking?’ It’s like, ‘Most likely, yeah. Probably all three of those things. I mean, at least two of them, possibly all three.’ He was like, ‘I stopped because Jesus told me to stop and talk to you. He said to tell you you’re destined for great things.’ My friends came out, and I was like, ‘Hey, I’m gonna go with this guy.’ I gave my soul to Jesus within, like, two days. I was stuffing envelopes for his organization, Jews for Jesus. I’m not even sure, at that age — I was nineteen years old — I knew what Jewish was.
Pratt went on to meet with a director who got him his first substantial gig and met his future wife, actress Anna Faris. They wed in 2009 and had a son, Jack, in 2012. Born nine weeks prematurely, Pratt began praying daily to God that his son would pull through his difficulties. Jack got stronger every day and is now a healthy and thriving three year old. The experience deepened Pratt’s devotion to his faith.
It’s not easy or popular to be a public entity and still hold on to personal beliefs, but Pratt seems to be doing just fine for himself. He spent the day doing exactly what he wanted to do, and it looks like he had a great time doing it.
