In a role that Parks and Recreation’s Ben Wyatt (Adam Scott) would highly approve, Chris Pratt (he plays Andy Dwyer in NBC’s Parks and Rec) has landed the lead role in the upcoming movie adaption of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
Deadline reports that Pratt will play Peter Quill, the son of a human mother and alien father, who assumes the mantle of Star-Lord, an interplanetary policeman. Quill is also the leader of the space-based superhero team Guardians of the Galaxy.
The Deadline article explains that the Guardians of the Galaxy are a group of alien superheroes who team up to protect the solar system from an evil alien race. The good guys are from the future, and another dimension. In the comics, the Guardians worked with The Avengers (I smell a cross-over movie!) and it so happens that Iron Man is also one of the Guardians.
Pratt’s big screen credits include Moneyball, Bride Wars and the Oscar-nominated film, Zero Dark Thirty.
Pratt’s casting comes on the heels of his former Everwood co-star and current Revenge star, Emily VanCamp landing the female lead in Captain America: Winter Soldier.
Guardians of the Galaxy is set to be released August 1, 2014.
