Coldplay Scores Sixth Successive No. 1 Album In The UK

Coldplay has done it again.  The band’s new album ‘Ghost Stories’ has gone on straight to Number 1 this Sunday on the UK charts.  With sales of 168,000 copies since its release May 19, it has become so far, the fastest selling album of the year.  The group has released five studio albums since they started, none of which have failed to reach the top spot in the UK charts.

“A new Coldplay album always makes a huge impact, and ‘Ghost Stories’ is no exception,” said Martin Talbot, Chief Executive of the Official Charts Company.  He added, “The boys have made it a perfect six Number 1s out of six albums today.  That is some achievement!”

Meanwhile, Parlophone and Warner Bros. Records Chairman Miles Leonard had this to say about Coldplay, who he’s been working with since their first album, “It is a thrill to celebrate their sixth straight Number 1 album in the UK; a landmark moment in a long list of accomplishments for an extraordinary band,”

At no. 2 is ‘Xscape’, a collection of previously unreleased work from the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

In the singles chart, new comer Sam Smith was able to hit no. 1 for the first time with his song “Stay With Me.”
