Airbnb has some explaining to do. Comedian Ari Teman recently used the apartment exchange service to rent out his New York apartment for what he thought would be an uneventful weekend. To his surprise, however, the man who took his apartment off his hands decided it would be an opportune time to throw a “XXX orgy” in the apartment he was borrowing.
Teman arrived at the apartment to check things out and was obviously caught off guard by what he found. With over $87,000 worth of damage, and just an all-around ‘ick’ factor, he took to Tumblr to express his displeasure with the company in a post titled: “Dear AirBNB, no thank you for the ‘XXX Freak Fest’ you brought to my apartment.”
He also shared this tweet, posted presumably by the man who rented out his apartment (the twitter account associated with it has since been deleted):

“Over 11 million guests have had a safe and positive experience on Airbnb and problems for hosts and guests are incredibly rare, but when they happen, we try to help make things right. We were appalled when we learned about this incident and we took immediate action to help this host.”
Teman, being the comedian he is, has been very easy-going throughout the ordeal, even with the threat of eviction from his landlord. He initially joked that he thought he was being robbed, but then he realized New York movers would never be able to move that quickly.
In regards to what has become of the situation, Teman says “Airbnb has been very friendly, I think it’s unlucky to have an orgy happen in a host’s apartment, and it’s even unluckier for Airbnb when the host is a comedian with 30,000 followers on Facebook. “
The company has already transferred over $20,000 to Teman and the user who rented the apartment from him has been removed from the site. As of right now this seems to be nothing more than a literal freak accident.
