Comedy Icon Anne Meara Dies At Age 85

Anne Meara, known for being half of the legendary double act Stiller and Meara, has died at the age of 85.

It is indeed a very sad day for the world of comedy, as one of the most brilliant performers to ever grace the institution of comedy has left us. Anne Meara, known for being half of the legendary double act Stiller and Meara, has died at the age of 85.

Meara, who made her name acting across from her husband, equal comedy legend Jerry Stiller, was one of the first women to breakthrough the male-dominated world of comedy and make her name as a powerful female voice in comedy, and she greatly influenced legions of budding comics to get into the world of comedy.

Anne’s comedic talents clearly run in the family, as both her children have gone on to great success. Her son is comedy tycoon Ben Stiller, and her daughter is fellow actress Amy Stiller. Meara last performed across from her son in Night at the Museum almost a decade ago.

Meara died from undisclosed causes, and her family announced the news yesterday.
