Sarah Goddard

Staff Writer

After 4 glorious years playing Troy Barnes on NBC’s Community, Donald Glover has landed his own television series on the FX network.

Last month Glover announced he was cutting back his full-time role on Community and would only be appearing in the first 5 episodes of the shows 5th season, saying that he wanted to concentrate on other pursuits involving his acting career, but also his stand-up comedy and his rap career under the stage name Childish Gambino.

Tentatively titled Atlanta, the half hour show will be a semi-autobiographical comedy based around Glover’s own experiences growing up in Atlanta and will be set against the backdrop of the city’s music scene.

The show was pitched to and courted by several networks before signing on with FX, since the network was willing to offer Donald the flexibility he needed to accommodate Childish Gambino’s touring schedule as well as his commitment to Community.

Glover will not only star on Atlanta, but will also have his hand in the writing as well as serve as the show’s Executive Producer.
