Coronavirus Postpones Tribeca Film Festival

All businesses are struggling right now with this coronavirus, and clearly the movie business has been no exception.

Well, after the South by Southwest Film Festival of Austin, Texas was canceled, it was only a matter of time before more film festivals followed suit. The Tribeca Film Festival, according to IndieWire, has not been canceled, but “postponed” at this time, due to – you guessed it – that coronavirus.

Presented by AT&T, the Tribeca Film Festival was scheduled for April 15th-26th of this year in New York City, New York. According to their festival website, more details on what Tribeca has planned in the wake of this announcement will be coming soon.

Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah lucked out being in its usual spot at the beginning of the year in January and ending early February before this growing pandemic got to where it is now. The Cannes Film Festival is currently still in purgatory, as it is slated for mid-May 2020. According to CNBC, the advertising for the festival has been postponed, so an imminent announcement on the cancellation or delay can’t be too far behind.

Fall film festivals like the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado or the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in Canada don’t have anything to worry about for a while, as Telluride usually brings people to the mountains Labor Day weekend in early September, and TIFF is scheduled for mid to late September. We can all only hope that by then things will be better for all of us and everything everywhere.

All businesses are struggling right now with this coronavirus, and clearly the movie business has been no exception, with movie releases and various movie productions being delayed or canceled completely and independent movie theaters and movie theater chains closing, people are going to have to get their entertainment from those popular streaming services like Hulu, Netflix, and Disney+.

Please stay safe out there, everyone!
