Marvel’s gamble to craft a Guardians of the Galaxy film paid off big time as the latest in a long line of superhero flicks had an amazing opening weekend with over $90 million collected in box office sales. At the San Diego Comic Con, a sequel had already been announced, and now we’re hearing about the possibility of a potential crossover with The Avengers!

News of the potential crossover came in through an interview with Guardians writer James Gunn, who said of the ideological meetup, “We talked about all sorts of possibilities. I know what the basic plan is. That could or could not include a couple of Avengers and a couple of Guardians meeting up, or all of the Avengers and all of the Guardians. But we do inhabit the same universe and they’re pretty big personalities that are likely to, at some point or another, run into each other.”

Given the two sagas’ major financial success, it isn’t surprising that filmmakers are now considering mixing and matching them together into something extra special.

It’d be a longtime Marvel comic fan’s dream for the big screen come true, and the possibilities upon which to base it on story-wise are absolutely endless. Will Thanos finally come to Earth just in time for the crossover, or will we see it build up in smaller increments first?

Enough of my speculation, though! What do you think of the idea of a Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers crossover, and better yet, where do you think it should lead, story-wise?
