According to The Mirror it may be a possibility. The UK site is loosely reporting that Capaldi’s run as one of television’s most beloved characters may have already been set in stone. The reasoning is as interesting as the idea.
It has been speculated that the one year stint will help prepare for an alleged creative revamping of the Doctor franchise.
Capaldi serving as a transitional Doctor would provide some cushion room to usher in a new creative era and team. A year seems like just enough time to settle into a new showrunner and a fresh direction.
The possibility of Steven Moffat securing a more “radical” choice for the new Doctor has also been explored. When they say radical, they mean fans might be looking at a Doctor of a different ethnicity, sex or even nationality.
If the rumor is true, this would make Capaldi the second new era Doctor to leave after just one year in the role.
What do you think? Do you like the idea of Capaldi segwaying for a new era of Doctor Who?
