“Crying Out Loud” On This Week’s ‘Modern Family’

On this week’s “Modern Family,” it’s Alex’s senior ditch day, Claire receives a very tempting job offer, Manny has a new girlfriend and Lily has no empathy.

We’re on the penultimate episode of the Modern Family season! Let’s see what happened to our favourite family this week.

Phil forces Alex to take part in senior ditch day, and did this by pretending Luke was hurt in order to get Alex and Haley in the car. They take a momentary detour from their route to California to an old movie theatre that Phil helped renovate, which is soon to be demolished. He hates that the one thing he created is going to be demolished, but after taking a good look around him, he realises that his children are enough for him.

Claire has been offered a new job and she ‘reluctantly’ tells Jay, expecting some big “please stay” speech. Naturally this did not happen so Claire reconsiders her initial declining of the job. She then looks back into Jay’s office and sees him tearing up whilst looking at a recent picture of Claire, again making her rethink the job offer. As it happens, Jay was trimming his nose hair, but by this stage Claire had messed the company around too much and they had retracted their offer. With a small push, Jay launches in a surprisingly emotional speech that causes Claire to burst into tears.

Manny has got himself another girlfriend, but Gloria is not her biggest fan so takes an opportunity to sabotage their relationship when the chance arises. Manny forgot Kylie had visited him as he was too loopy on pain medication from having his wisdom teeth removed to remember. Gloria tries to hide the fact she came, but is thwarted when Kylie sends Manny a picture of the two of them with Gloria glaring in the background. Begrudgingly, Gloria allows Manny to go to Drama Camp with Kylie over the summer.

Finally, with the Tucker-Pritchett’s, Lily seems to be lacking any empathy, and Mitch blames himself for not being sensitive enough, but promptly then blames Cam for being too sensitive which subsequently desensitized their daughter. Lily admits that the reason she did not get upset when her daddies were ill was because they always get better, and the implication that maybe one day they won’t was enough to brig out Lily’s feelings.

That’s it for this week’s recap, join me next week for the final recap of the season!
