Daniel Bruhl Talks Of Trepidation At Portraying A Living Icon

He may be best remembered as the Nazi soldier in Inglourious Basterds who wanted to win Shosanna’s heart, however now Brühl is getting the worldwide recognition he deserves.

The German actor co-starred alongside Chris Hemsworth on the action film Rush, directed by Ron Howard. Rush is set during the 1976 Formula One Season and shows the relationship between James Hunt (played by Hemsworth) and Niki Lauda (played by Brühl).

The film was shown at the Toronto Film Festival receiving positive reviews.

”To play him was not that easy, because we don’t have that much in common, he’s very different and it freaked me out at first to play someone who is famous and alive and was such an icon and living legend” Brühl said in an interview with Thompson on Hollywood.

Brühl also stars alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in The Fifth Estate, the drama-thriller film about the news-leaking website WikiLieaks. Brühl plays WikiLeaks former spokesperson Daniel Domscheit-Berg while Cumberbatch plays founder Julian Assange.

The film opened this year’s Toronto Film Festival to mixed reviews. 

His portrayal of Niki Lauda could get him award attention, but what is sure is that we will see more of him after these two films. 

Rush opened in the UK this weekend, and opens in the US on September 27thThe Fifth Estate is due to be released on October 18th.
