Daniel Radcliffe doesn’t have to worry about his next engagement following his upcoming return to Broadway with The Cripple of Inishmaan, he has signed on to star in Douglas McGrath’s new film, Brooklyn Bridge.

Described as McGrath’s “ode to the Brooklyn Bridge” and inspired by true events, it tells the story of a “brilliant but inexperienced engineer” who following the death of his father, is left to oversee the construction of New York’s famous Brooklyn Bridge. Though faced with numerous tragedies, danger and wracked with doubt, the engineer’s obsession to complete the job “threatens his health and his family until he discovers an improbably ally in his charming and shrewd wife,” reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Radcliffe is set to play the engineer, Washington Roebling.

Pascal Degove, managing director of Goldcrest Films who will finance and distribute the film, praised the addition of the Harry Potter star: “Having Daniel’s involvement is a massive coup for the film. Not only is he perfect for the role, but he’s consistently proved himself to be one of the very few actors who is genuinely a massive draw for audiences of all ages.”
