Dark Horse Announces Buffy The Highschool Years At NYCC

Dark Horse Comics announced a new installment to their Buffy The Vampire Series of comics, Buffy The High School Years.

Oh, Dark Horse…how I love you. After more than 18 years since Buffy The Vampire Slayer first debuted on television and gave a generation of girls a superhero, you continue to keep her alive! And Friday at New York Comic Con, Dark Horse announced another Buffy comic coming our way!

Buffy The High School Years, a graphic novel written by Faith Erin Hicks and drawn by Yishan Li will take us back to those formative years in high school where Buffy honed her skills and kicked vampire butt with the Scooby Gang! The story will take place between seasons one and two of the show. Hicks stated that fans should think of the graphic novel as a “lost episode.” In an interview with The Mary Sue, Hicks said, “Willow, Xander and Giles are all part of this story, and Cordelia makes a cameo. If the book is successful, Dark Horse might have me back to write more, which would be awesome. I’d love to dive into more Scooby Gang stories, and hopefully include Cordelia more prominently.”

Buffy creator Joss Whedon will also be overseeing the book as an executive producer. And, of course, with Whedon’s involvement, we know to expect a book that remains true to the Buffyverse! Buffy fans can expect the book in June of 2016.
