The Dark Knight star William Fichtner has confirmed in an interview with Huffington Post Canada that he’s been cast to play Shredder in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, which is and expected to be next summer’s blockbuster when it’s released on 6 June.

Fichtner had this to say about the role:

“I play Shredder. It is cool. It’s one of those things that came along where I thought, ‘Really? Let me think about this for a minute.’ [Laughs] Then I was like, ‘Yeah, OK, this sounds like a journey.’ I’m very glad that it worked out, I’m really glad that I’m doing it.”

This is the first feature based on the comic book characters since the animated film in 2007, and will be directed by Jonathan Liebesman, who directed 2012’s Wrath of the Titans, and produced by Michael Bay (Transformers).

It’s an interesting cast, including Megan Fox as April O’Neill.

Shredder is the arch-nemesis of the eternally teenage turtles, and it’s a role Fichtner will certainly enjoy getting his teeth into!

No stranger to playing villains, Fichtner will be seen later this year in Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger, and Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium.  He will next appear on our small screens in NBC’s Crossing Lines.
