Everybody’s favorite tough-as-nails RPG has announced its sequel debut. IGN reports that Dark Souls 2 will be released in North America on March 11th, 2014 and March 14th in Europe.

Dark Souls 2 will be launching on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with the PC release to come soon after. Good to know us money grubbers will get to hold onto the older console generation just a while longer before migrating to the PS4 and Xbox One this November.

Hopefully the PC version of Dark Souls 2 will be, shall we say, just a little bit more optimized than its predecessor. Dark Souls (that is, the original, Dark Souls 1) was released on the PC as the ‘Prepare to Die Edition’, and oh my, did it suck hard.

While the game itself is excellent (albeit being so difficult sometimes I had to restrain myself from throwing my controller against the wall), it was ported very badly to the PC. So bad, in fact, that Dark Souls 2 director Yui Tanimura admitted that it was ‘half-assed,’ according to this article on IGN.

I mean, you can have a tough game, but a game that is so hard that you have to buy a console controller to play the game on PC because the mouse and keyboard are virtually impossible to use is, well, going just a bit too far. That is, unless we’re talking about the old school 8-bit games, where sometimes the difficulty was so unfair that modern games like Bioshock: Infinite allude to that time with fond gameplay difficulties titles like ‘1999 mode.’

Luckily for us, Dark Souls 2 will be receiving some much asked for PC-porting love. Cheers to developers that listen to the community, and video games that are like them fabled games of old: Actually a challenge to complete.
