Darren Criss had a busy, busy 2013; with roles in Girl Most Likely, Glee, Web Therapy, Six By Sondheim, a concert tour and his efforts as an advocate for LGBTQ rights, just to name a few.

At Monday’s Television Critics Association Party, TheBacklot nabbed one of our favorite Glee stars for a little one-on-one time where he told the mag that, despite everything he accomplished in 2013, he feels he needs to “step it up” in 2014.

Darren addressed the upcoming shift in focus for Glee from Lima to New York City saying, “For some of the characters it makes sense. For Blaine, he’s engaged to somebody who lives in New York and has made plans to go to New York. Artie (Kevin McHale) has applied to schools in Brooklyn, Sam (Chord Overstreet) is planning to be a model so there’s some obviousness to that. I hope we don’t completely leave Ohio because I want to see my friends – a very selfish agenda – but who knows?”

He also addressed his on screen engagement to Chris Colfer’s character, Kurt, and how a move to NYC for Blaine would seem like an opportune time for “Klaine” to move in together; but also admits that should that happen it “will present a whole new structure to their relationship, and I’m sure it will create problems and conflict.”

With the upcoming 100th episode and the re-mastering of some of our favorite Glee numbers, Darren admits he never tires of singing “Teenage Dream” but particularly enjoyed singing “Wake Me Up [Before You Go Go]” with Chord Overstreet. “It was so insatiably fun,” he says.

He wraps it all up talking about what is in store for 2014, including his new album: “I could’ve put an album out, in my mind I’m three years overdue, but I just had too many things that I wanted to do and I didn’t want to half-ass it. So I’d like to finish what I’ve been working on the past few years this year because I think it needs to be done.”

He also wishes Lea Michele well and hopes her album is a “big smash” calling his Glee costar a “superstar” while referring to himself as “the nerdy rock musician.” Nerdy or not, fans will more than willingly support his “nerdy rock and roll” album.

Gleeks and Criss fans across the country will be anxiously waiting to see what 2014 brings for Darren and Blaine; so stay tuned for more updates on all your favorite Glee stars!
