We reported that Fox is planning to remake his British crime drama Broadchurch and we can now announce the first casting decision has been made.
According to TVLine, the role of the senior detective will be played by none other than David Tennant. Tennant, who also played DI Alex Hardy in the original version of the show, will play the US detective investigating the death of a young boy in a small town. This will not be Tennant’s first foray into American televsion, however his previous show Rex Is Not Your Lawyer did not get picked up past the pilot. The article also reports that Tennant will be playing this character as an American.
Shooting is expected to start in the early part of 2014, after Tennant has finished his run in the Royal Shakespeare Company production of Richard II. Broadchurch US will probably air late in 2014 or possibly early 2015.
It is not known whether this announcement will impact on the second series of the UK version of the crime drama which is currently in pre production.
