The marketing for Deadpool 2 is at full speed as we near the release of the film on May 18, but the music video for Celine Dion’s song for the film is the best thing yet. ‘Ashes’ is a serious ballad with heartbreaking lyrics that are also filled with hope. As you read that description, you may think, how does that fit the image Deadpool has become known for. You’re not wrong to ask because even Deadpool thinks it’s too much at the end, a highlight of the video.
Celine Dion graces us with her beautiful voice on an equally outstanding track. Some of the lyrics read, “Can you use these tears to put out the fires in my soul?
'Cause I need you here/'Cause I've been shaking/I've been bending backwards till I'm broke/Watching all these dreams go up in smoke.” As the video begins, it follows suit with most songs that belong on soundtracks videos with Dion on a stage singing her heart out and clips of the film to tie Deadpool 2 in. Then, ‘Ashes’ breaks all the rules as we are graced with the image of Deadpool in heels beginning to perform an interpretive dance along with the song. Dion doesn’t miss a mark or a note while Deadpool is laying all over the stage around her, dancing some very intense moves. You can’t hold back the laughter as you watch these two worlds that don’t mix, collide.
Finally, Deadpool calls out to her at the end and explains that she did it too well and that this isn’t Titanic. Celine does not appreciate him asking her to tone it down and, even, phone it in and as he leaves, he shakes his head, “I should have asked N*sync.” This video is magic and we could watch it over and over again without getting tired of it. We also have to admit, we’ve had the chorus to ‘Ashes’ stuck in our heads for a while. Take a look!
