Dennis Rodman, the self-styled goodwill ambassador of sorts, is returning to North Korea to meet again with Kim Jong-un. This is his second time making the trip in hopes of “bridging the gap” between the United States and North Korea.

While the trip comes after North Korea canceled negotiations for the release of American Kenneth Bae, the NBA hall of famer wants nothing to do with the situation. In fact, he has actively shot down the possibility of negotiation, saying, “I’m not going to North Korea to discuss freeing Kenneth Bae.”

”I’m not there to be a diplomat, I’m going over there to just have a good time with him and his family, that’s pretty much it.” Rodman also said, “I just want to go over there to meet my friend Kim, the marshal, and try to, you know, start a new basketball league, stuff like that.”
Meanwhile, Bae is being sentenced to fifteen years of hard labor in a country notorious for its human rights violations. Could the trip be helpful to Bae anyhow? Who knows. Perhaps Rodman’s presence will move Kim, an avid basketball fanatic, to pardon the American citizen.
