‘Destiny’ Banks $325 Million In Only Five Days

The hype train is at the station and it’s full of cash! Space-themed super game ‘Destiny’ has made $325 million in only five days and more units are being shipped out to the masses.

It’s fair to say that Bungie’s latest title Destiny, has had a rough launch. Mixed reviews from fans and critics alike have put it at the epicenter of current gaming news, but after the sales figures were released today, I don’t think Bungie will care too much.

The space-based first-person shooter launched on September 9th, and according to Bungie’s collected figures, it’s made $325 million across all platforms. And it also appears gamers have not just picked up the game for a few hours and discarded it as another generic title, as Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg pointed out in the following statement.

Destiny fans played more than 100 million hours of the game in the first week. That’s on par with the engagement levels of our most popular Call of Duty games, which obviously is an industry leader.”

These figures go along with the announcement that Bungie had shipped $500 million worth of units to retail stores last week. It’s a serious money maker. And according to the publisher, they are dedicated to making the new title work.

“Destiny is a platform that will grow and evolve and we will continue to work closely with our partners at Bungie to bring a long line of new experiences and content to life in the game.”

Have you picked up a copy of Destiny? If so, what do you think? And if not, why not?! Let us know!
