Up until several hours ago the future of the Fast & Furious film franchise was unknown following the death of Fast & Furious star Paul Walker. Universal had decided to halt production indefinitely on Fast & Furious 7 which had been slated for a July 11, 2014 release, while the cast, crew and Hollywood mourned the death of the beloved actor.

However while transiting through LAX on Friday, director James Wan advised TMZ that the 7th film will be completed and released. When asked how the cast and crew were coping with the death of Walker, Wan responded that they were “sad” and “somber” but were “dealing with it”.

The question of exactly how the movie will continue despite the loss of one of its major actors, who’s been in every Fast & Furious movie since the first, is one that needs to be addressed. Sources close to the production reportedly told CNN that editors were going over already-shot footage in order to see whether script rewrites could work.

In this day and age there are a number of ways in which production could handle the situation; Walker’s character could be killed off, CGI could be used to reconfigure new scenes that involve the late actor or they could choose to go the road that tends to not go down well with fans- hire a new actor to play the role.

But in the mean time, the studio have advised in a statement that they are dedicated to providing support to the actor’s immediate family, as well as all the “extended Fast & Furious family of cast, crew and filmmakers”.
