I think it goes without saying, but this may be the greatest news in the history of news. Ok, that may be a slight exaggeration, but not by much.
Walt Disney CEO and Chairman Bob Iger has confirmed that Disney is in discussions to take Frozen to Broadway! “We’re not demanding speed. We’re demanding excellence” Iger told Fortune.
The film already has one foot firmly planted on the Broadway stage, with the score co-written by Avenue Q and The Book of Mormon, Tony award winning composer Robert Lopez and his wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez and stars esteemed Broadway veterans such as Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad.
Frozen has quickly achieved Disney’s all-time animated debut at the box office and is expected to pass The Lion King for overall box office takings, having already grossed $669 million worldwide. And that’s without box office sales from China or Japan, where the film is yet to open.
Still in its very early planning stages, sadly there is not much else to report. But as always, stay tuned to PopWrapped for more details as they emerge.
