Marvel has confirmed that Scott Derrickson will direct its forthcoming Doctor Strange live film adaptation, but casting for the part of the supercilious sorcerer supreme is still a mystery.
Early rumors attached Jared Leto, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Tom Hardy to the project, but it looks like the meaty role of the cocky, complex, powerful, and tragic Stephen Strange could still be up in the air.
Other fan and media blogger choices include Will Arnett, Hugh Laurie, and the ubiquitous Johnny Depp, a well-beloved household name many fans would love to finally see in a Marvel role.
As for me, I’m thoroughly in the camp for Jonathan Rhys Meyers to get the part. JRM has already shown off his ability to pull off a refined yet tortured man in touch with science and the supernatural as the lead in NBC’s recent Dracula series. He also just happens to look super-sexy with a goatee!
