Steven Moffat has confirmed that the upcoming full season of Doctor Who will not be split over two years.

Speaking at an event at London’s BFI last night, he said the eighth season will run as a full season, unlike season seven which was split over 2012 and 2013.  However, the only downside is that following the Christmas Special, “The Time of the Doctor,” which will fully introduce viewers to Peter Capaldi’s Time Lord, the eighth season will not air until August 2014.

Fans of the show are eagerly awaiting Capaldi’s first full appearance after a mere glimpse of him in the recent anniversary episode, “The Day of the Doctor.”  Moffat has also said that Capaldi’s Time Lord is very different to recent incarnations and that “it’s time for the old beast to snarl.”

“The Time of the Doctor” will air at 7.30pm on Christmas Day on BBC One.
