“They’re not broody, upset Doctors – it’s more ‘There’s two of us! Brilliant!’” says Doctor Who show runner Steven Moffat to SFX about how David Tennant and Matt Smith’s doctors interact with each other during 50th Anniversary Special, “The Day of the Doctor.”
If, like the rest of the fandom, you’re dying to know how Ten and Eleven work together aboard the TARDIS, you’ll be glad to know that, according to Matt it’s “like Laurel and Laurel, as if Hardy didn’t show up – except he does in the form of John Hurt!”
Moffat tells us he had initially written the relationship between them as abrasive; however, due to Tennant and Smith’s easy onscreen chemistry, the two “loveable, madcap, caffeinated Doctors” have a “funny” dynamic between them.
In the 241th issue of SFX Moffat confesses that the “tremendous double-act” is a “lovely accident” as the two actors are “naturally funny together, enough alike and enough dissimilar.”
Soon we’ll be able to see for ourselves how well our favourite Doctors interact, if not through the trailer yet to be released, then on the 23 (or 24th if you’re on the other side of the world) of November when the special will be simulcast around the globe to about 72 different countries.
