Last week we showed you some of the first pictures released from this year’s Downton Abbey Christmas episode. Now we can bring you the first trailer of the special.
Yesterday ITV released the first trailer for the Christmas special. Like the photos that were released, the trailer also focuses on Lady Rose’s debut and her presentation to King George V at Buckingham Palace.

The official synopsis of the episode reads, “The family and servants are at Grantham House, their London residence, preparing for the busy social program. Not one to miss such a grand occasion, Cora’s mother, Martha Levinson makes the journey from New York with her playboy son Harold, fresh from his recent brush with the law. Both outspoken and larger-than-life, they make quite an impression amongst certain members of London’s high society, in particular with Lord Aysgarth, played by James Fox. Isobel finds herself with an admirer while Edith is wrestling with a moral dilemma. Downstairs, Daisy gets an unexpected invitation and Carson treats the staff to a special day out.”
Along with the cast regulars and a variety of guest stars from season 4 returning to continue storylines from the season in the special, the episode also features the return of Shirley MacLaine as Cora’s mother, Martha Levinson, and Paul Giamatti as Cora’s brother, Harold.
The Downton Abbey Christmas special screens at 8.30pm on Christmas Day on ITV.
