Dr Dre Lands On Top Of Forbes’ Hip-Hop Cash Kings 2014

Dr Dre finds himself surpassing Diddy on the Forbes Hip-Hop Cash Kings for 2014; making him hip-hop’s top earner; thanks in large part to Beats by Dre.

Annually, Forbes publishes year-end earnings lists and hip-hop’s money-makers is just one of them. Last year, Diddy saw his $50 million landing him on the top, with Dr Dre following in the third place with $10 million. However, this year’s list got published and it found the gentlemen changing positions with each other.

Dr. Dre’s $3 billion deal with Apple, in which he sold them his headphones, Beats by Dre, helped his final income reach $620 million. Now that’s what I call a successful year! In fact, he ended up earning more than all the other nine artists on the list combined. Therefore, it is only normal that he tops the Cash Kings list. DJ Kahled, who announced the top 5 spots of the list noted that “it’s safe to say headphones is a good business.”

2014’s list also saw Jay Z taking over the second place with his $60 million, with the same number getting Diddy third place. Drake, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Kanye West, Birdman, Lil Wayne, Pharrell Williams and Eminem filled the rest of the spots. Take a look at the top 10 Cash Kings and each one’s earnings below.

1. Dr. Dre – $620 million
2. Jay Z – $60 million
2. Diddy – $60 million
4. Drake – $33 million
5. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – $32 million
6. Kanye West – $30 million
7. Birdman – $24 million
8. Lil Wayne – $23 million
9. Pharrell Williams – $22 million
10. Eminem – $18 million
