After the last season of American Idol all four judges walked away, followed by Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe who was let go to bring in new blood, and FOX prepared for some major changes. The only thing that remained recognizable on the struggling singing competition’s show was the ever-endearing face of Ryan Seacrest.
This season has already proven to bring the hype with rumors of replacement judges flying left and right. Despite their best efforts, show runners were unable to secure an Idol-alumni judging panel, and instead went fishing for famous faces who previously made the show worth watching.
Low and behold Keith Urban changed his mind and returned for another season, and, after a battle with Jennifer Hudson, Latina superstar Jennifer Lopez was confirmed to return to the show.
Despite talks that Black Eyed Pea will.i.am would be filling the final seat on the panel, it would appear that story may end up being more like will.am.not.
New reports from US Weekly lead us to believe Dr. Luke may now be in contention for the seat on Idol. Having previously worked with Ke$ha, The Wanted, Katy Perry and Britney Spears he definitely has the music knowledge, though maybe not the starpower needed to bolster the show’s ratings.
In true Idol fashion I would wager it will be the eleventh hour before we know for sure who is joining the panel once and for all, but until then we will keep you up to date with all the latest!
