‘E.T.’ Returning To Theaters For 35th Anniversary

That little terrestrial E.T. is coming back to theaters for his 35th Anniversary on September 17 and 20, 2017.

“Phone home!”

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) isn’t the only classic movie that is getting a 35th Anniversary re-release. That’s right Spielberg, E.T., and sci-fi fans, E.T. the Extra Terrestrial (1982) is coming back to theaters in just a couple of weeks for two days only!

Often regarded as one of director Steven Spielberg’s greatest triumphs, the film is found on the American Film Institute’s (AFI’s) Top 100 Greatest American Movies of All Time list at an impressive #25, as well as #24 on the 10th Anniversary of that list. Brought to you by Fathom Events and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) Big Screen Classics, this re-release of the iconic boy-and-his-alien story will also feature a unique commentary by TCM Host Ben Mankiewicz, giving his own take and perception of the film.

Fans of the film’s composer John Williams know that he annually conducts at the Hollywood Bowl every summer, and those who are particularly dedicated fans will remember when he performed there back in 2012. This marked the 30th Anniversary of E.T., and it was celebrated by the live orchestra accompanying the last act of the film (E.T.’s escape) on the giant bowl stage screen under Williams’ baton. What a night to remember.

E.T. the Extra Terrestrial is rated PG and stars Henry Thomas, Dee Wallace, Drew Barrymore, Peter Coyote, Robert MacNaughton, and Pat Welsh as the voice of E.T., and comes to select theaters on September 17, 2017 and September 20, 2017 only. You can also look out for the Blu-Ray, 4K Ultra HD, and Digital HD release of the 35th Anniversary Limited Edition of the film (the Blu-Ray and 4K Ultra HD include a collector’s booklet and the beloved soundtrack of the film).
