Congratulations, Ed Sheeran!
His recent release, X (pronounced as “multiply”) has become the fastest selling album of the year thus far, beating out other UK artists Sam Smith and Coldplay.
The Suffolk-singer sold 182,000 copies in his first week alone. At this rate, I think it’s fair to assume that sales will only escalate moving forward.
Prior to the release of X, the singer opened up to MTV in his tell-all documentary, Nine Days and Night of Ed Sheeran about his fears and worries for his second album.
“Everyone can have one hit and it happens time and time again…If you look at people’s careers, if their second record is as big or bigger than their first record, their a career artist forever…but if their second album doesn’t hit, they’ll never go past that. So second record’s always the make or break.” He said, referring to the dreaded, “sophomore slump.”
With + gaining international success, Sheeran had every right to worry about the release of his newest album – but the charts proved differently. Looks like you don’t have anything to worry about, Ed.
So tell us, PopStars, have you bought your copy of the album? If so, what are some of your favorite songs? Let us know in the comments below!
