Eighty Ninety Present Their New Single “Better As Friends”

“Better As Friends” is about: “..the desire to live in the past rather than face the end..”

Music is very much a family affair for Eighty Ninety, consisting of brothers Abner and Harper James -and given the fact they’ve been a part of the music scene since 2016 when they released debut single “Three Thirty” – a rather successful one at that. To date the pair have racked up more than 26 million streams on various platforms and have also been included on an official Taylor Swift playlist on Spotify.

They pride themselves on being a band with a ‘can-do anything’ mentality, both in and outside of the studio and say of how they create their unique sound and relatable tracks: “We let the emotional arc of the song, rather than any set of genre conventions, lead us to instruments and sounds.”

Following on from previous release “Happier”, the duo, despite not being able to get out on the road and perform for fans as a result of the ongoing Corona Virus crisis, are keeping fans happy by dropping new single “Better As Friends”, which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere.

As with many of their other tracks, “Better as Friends” comes from a very personal place for the duo, with the emotive and honest lyrics reflecting that – this time around, they’ve created a song which explores the desire to remain connected to someone you once loved despite how painful it can sometimes be. In their own words, “Better As Friends” is about: “..the desire to live in the past rather than face the end, and how loving someone can mean wanting the best for them even if that no longer includes you.”

The song – a dreamy mix of contemporary pop and chillwave production – also offers another taste as to what fans can expect from Eighty Ninety’s upcoming sophomore EP, which was created with Grammy nominated producer Gian Stone who has worked with Halsey, Dua Lipa and Justin Bieber among others.
