Electric Zoo Strikes Back, After Disastrous Last Year

New York’s Electric Zoo EDM Festival took place over the weekend showcasing some of the best EDM artists in the world.

The 6th annual Electric Zoo EDM music festival took place in New York over the weekend. All the top names in electronic dance music appear on its stages every year to perform their tunes and entertain the audience during the three-day celebration.

Last year, two visitors died due to use of Molly, an MDMA containing drug, and the third day was cancelled. Tragedies like that kept happening at similar events, so it only made things harder for organisers. After working things out and making it all possible, they had to make things more strict this year.

The ones that attended the concerts got to watch an anti-drug video, drug-sniffing dogs were there to identify the  drugs, security was all over the place and even looked into people’s bags, while there also were medical booths at various spots. Attendance rates seemed to have dropped from last year though, since lots of party people did not want to be so closely watched with all those measures in place. However, lots of crazed ones did show up and kept the party up all night long.

Six stages welcomed a total of 140 acts, with all taking the audience to the EDM heaven. Among others, David Guetta, Armin Van Buuren, JACK U (Skrillex and DIplo), Nervo, Jamie xx, Zedd and Madeon took the stage to play their sets and cheer up the crowds. Different styles and eras of dance music were presented by various correspondents of the genre, with trance and dubstep leading the way, while there were also sounds of pop, hip-hop, techno and deep house making their appearance. This year there was a “Vinyl Only” stage included as well, that reminded the audience of the analog era of dance music and paid tribute to the roots of the genre.

Official numbers have yet to come out, but according to festivalgoers the audience did not seem as big as in previous years’ events. However, the party was a blast and the well-known acts delivered a great show for those who attended.
