Mother’s Day is the perfect day for a child to show how much their mother means to them; be it through chocolates, flowers, jewellery or something else hand made. The more heart felt the gift, the closer a mother will hold it to her heart.
Even if you’re not that close with your mom, Mother’s Day is a chance to reach out and try and lessen the gap.
Marshall Mathers, better known as award-winning rapper Eminem, released his latest LP The Marshall Mathers LP 2 at the end of September last year. The album lived up to the hype of the first, perhaps even surpassing it. Anyone who knows about Eminem is aware that he hasn’t had the greatest relationship with his mother over the years, repeatedly bashing her in lyrics to his songs, especially “Cleaning Out My Closet.”
This Mother’s Day, his gift to his mom Debbie was a beautiful, Spike Lee-directed video for “Headlights.” The lyrics for “Headlights” are an apology to his mother for all the things he’s said in the past. The song has been described as the song no one expected; easily the most powerful on the LP. The song also features the unique vocal stylings of Nate Ruess from fun. on the chorus.
The video is shot from the first person perspective of ‘Debbie Mathers’ and let’s us experience what she’s gone through as the subject of torment from her son. The climax of the video shows a beautiful moment between Eminem and Debbie, which sparked the inspiration for the song.
Take a look at the video below, then go tell your mother that you love her (again)!
