Jason Reitman’s film in progress Men, Women & Children has pulled off a casting coup in acquiring the services of Emma Thompson and Dean Norris, Variety reports.
Norris is fresh off Breaking Bad in which he played Hank Schrader during the blockbuster TV show’s entire 5-season run. Thompson is, of course, no stranger to cinema screens, currently starring in Saving Mr Banks opposite Tom Hanks as Mary Poppins author P.L. Travers.
Other names already attached to the film Reitman is also co-producing are Jennifer Garner (Alias, Juno, Dallas Buyers Club), Judy Greer (Arrested Development, Two and a Half Men), Adam Sandler (Grown Ups, Click, Happy Gilmore), Rosemarie Dewitt (United States of Tara), Dennis Haysbert (The Unit, 24), JK Simmons (Law & Order, The Closer), and David Denman (Parenthood, The Office).
Men, Women & Children is based on the 2011 novel of the same name by Chad Kultgen that centres on a number of American teenagers trying not to make a mess of their lives through external peer pressures and parental ones. And then throw sex in the middle of all that, and we potentially have a comedy with any number of poignant elements to it. Then, consider Jason Reitman – the man who wrote, directed and produced Up in the Air, wrote and directed Thank You for Smoking, ‘merely’ directed Juno – is behind this film’s screenplay as well. It’s early days yet, so no release date either, but suffice it to say, if the film is anywhere near as charged as the book is, in the hands of four-time-Academy-Award-nominated Reitman, it might just be a must-see.
