The Warner Bros production will reunite Emma with the producer of the Harry Potter films, David Heyman.

The film is an adaptation of the first of Erika Johansen’s fantasy trilogy novels, described as a female Game of Thrones. The main character in the books is Kelsea Glynn, a 19-year-old princess who has to reclaim her mother’s throne and kingdom, The Tearling, from the dark Red Queen. The book trilogy will be published in early 2014. Publisher, HarperCollins, describes the trilogy as “an insightful human story whose heroine is grappling with both the daily realities of coming-of-age and the ethical dilemmas of ruling justly, all while simply trying to stay alive”.

Emma Watson will also act as executive producer on the movie, which is still in early development. There is no director or writer named on the project.

Emma’s latest movie The Bling Ring is released in the US tomorrow (June 14) and is due for UK release on July 5.
