Essential Harpie Cards From Yu-Gi-Oh! Sisters of the Rose

One of the longest standing franchises is the one and only Yu-Gi-Oh! that’s given us unique entertainment in the form of a highly respected card game, anime series, video games, manga and basically anything that a successful franchise can attain.

When the series launched, it was something so distinctly different, fans of all ages discovered a newfound obsession and became enveloped in everything the franchise offered. After earning billions in profit surrounding the trading cards alone, Yu-Gi-Oh proved itself as a title with real staying power and has since evolved into an expansive universe of Duel Monsters with no signs of slowing down.

The franchise has shown major growth for the last few decades, and now in an attempt to revitalize aspects fans loved from the beginning, there’s a slight revival that is bringing back some of our favorites characters, monsters and cards with a fresh twist. Earlier this year, Konami released the nostalgic pack titled Sisters of the Rose, a series of cards that celebrates female characters from the Yu-Gi-Oh! world.

Of all of the women in Yu-Gu-Oh! there’s one specific femme-fatale that deserves not only recognition, but plenty of cards based on her powerful Harpie Lady deck – Mai Valentine. For those of you who need a refresher, Mai was a character that was known for her cunning ways, female powered deck and her combination of brains and beauty. While many cards from her deck weren’t actually made into playable cards, the Sisters of the Rose set has given new life to the Harpie Lady series and we have a few cards that you should be interested in checking out, courtesy of Konami and Yu-Gi-Oh!

Harpie Channeler – The Harpie Channeler is one of the new HL cards we’ve been blessed with by the duelist gods, granting an ability once per turn to special summon any Harpie creature from your deck in face up defense position. This is both a quick way to summon Harpie’s Pet Dragon to the field which normally requires more effort, or can be used with Harpie’s Hunting Ground which ultimately can leave your opponents defenseless in terms of spell and trap cards.

Harpie Perfumer – This particular Harpie card is certainly one to watch out for – a dangerous addition to the Harpie deck that will help you gather spell and trap cards to aid their strength. As Harpie Perfumer is summoned, it includes an effect that will allow you to attain one spell or trap card from your deck to your hand as long as Harpie Sisters are mentioned. If you control a level five Harpie or higher (as said above, it’s doable!) then you can take two cards which include several power ups, cards to summon, or even revive fallen Harpies without hesitation. Essentially, this is one Harpie warrior worth having in your deck!

Harpie Oracle – Harpie Oracle is another Harpie monster, very similar to Harpie Perfumer. The main difference in the card is that Harpie Oracle (as summoned) allows you to add one card with the same text from your graveyard to your hand. This means repeat uses of the Harpie-powered cards that can be devastating to an opponent. If that isn’t enough, the card can be special summoned from your hand if a level five or higher Harpie is on the field. Starting to notice why Harpie Channeler has the level upgrade effect? Now you know!

Alluring Mirror Split – Another handy spell card for the themed deck is Alluring Mirror Split. The card is a continuous spell card and while active, each time a harpie monster is destroyed on the field you can special summon another from your deck as long as it is a different name. This with Harpie’s Hunting ground will keep your opponents spell and trap zone empty, as well as keeping your field occupied with monsters and no direct damage to life points. If the card is destroyed, you may add a spell or trap with Harpie in the name from your graveyard to your hand, so no matter what there is plenty of Harpie love to go around.

Harpie Lady Elegance – The trap card Harpie Lady Elegance is both dangerous and fun to play, which involves filling the field with Harpie monsters. With this card, by sending one Harpie monster to the graveyard, you can special summon three Harpie creatures of different names from your hand, graveyard and deck – amplifying your monsters by two summons for a single turn. If the card is destroyed from the field before use, there’s even another effect that let’s you attain another Harpie card, so it’s a definite must for a Harpie centric deck.

Years after Mai’s all to brief stint in the series, her spirit has been recreated with the new Sisters of the Rose set and it’s never been a better time to be a Harpie Lady fan.
